Trust is gained by industry respect and one more thing. MONEY . when companies can save millions in their IT budgets the cloud becomes their friend... like sunshine on a cloudy day. as far as" too new", every kid wanted to be the first on the block with a new Schwinn, that hasn't changed. the cloud lives.

The corporate and colocation datacenters are not going away for another reason, which you touched on elsewhere, but didn't connect: Compliance with regulatory standards. It will take many years of built-up trust for organizations on both sides of regulatory issues (the users and the auditors) to be comfortable with moving compliance-specific data into clouds. If ever.

Trust requires long track records of spotless service, and can evaporate forever with just one problem. Cloud computing is too new, and too untried to have earned that trust yet.
